Jack joined the Griffith node of the ARC Centre for Fragment-Based Design and uses native mass spectrometry for drug screening purposes focusing on proteins and nucleic acids.
Jack’s PhD work was on the biophysical characterisation of DNA triplexes for antigene applications. At the start of my postdoc, I have been using native mass spectrometry for drug screening. During his PhD, he received the American Society of Mass Spectrometry travel stipend to go to Houston, TX in 2023. To further support his trip he was also awarded the Australian and New Zealand Society for Mass Spectrometry travel awards to join conference in Wollongong and Houston.
“I initially wasn’t entirely sure whether I wanted to do research after my undergraduate studies however completing my honours year with Prof Tara Pukala at Adelaide University, really changed that. Tara was a fantastic supervisor for me and really helped me along my journey. The team culture in the Pukala group was a pleasure to be a part of and made it an easy decision for me to continue and do a PhD.”, Jack says.
He is very intrigued about the drug discovery/screening process especially using techniques such as native mass spectrometry. Jack is also look forward to meeting new people and learning new skills.
