Isaac Gargett is a PhD student within the Centre for Fragment-Based Design (CFBD) based at Griffith University.
Research Overview
Isaac’s PhD project is about finding inhibitors of anti-virulence targets in Burkholderia pseudomallei.
Education and Goals
He completed a Bachelor of Medicinal Chemistry with Honours as a Dean’s Scholar at The University of Wollongong in 2021 before beginning his PhD at GRIDD.
Isaac was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 8 and was prescribed many different therapeutic drugs prior to brain surgery at the age of 12. He was thankfully cured of the disease but this inspired Isaac to pursue a career in chemistry and drug discovery. Isaac looks to give back to the research community as a part of his career. “At this stage, I am looking towards a career in research whereby I can play a significant role in the design, development, approval and commercialisation of pharmaceuticals.”, Isaac says.
